Brief introduction of Beihang University
On October 25, 1952, on the basis of the merger of the School of Aeronautical Engineering of Tsinghua University清华大学航空工程学院, Sichuan University四川大学 and the Department of Aeronautics of Beijing Institute of Technology北京工业学院航空系, the first aeronautical and astronautical university in New China, Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, was established.
From 1956 to 1957, according to the requirements of China’s 12-year scientific planning, Beihang took the lead in setting up missiles, management and aerodynamics combining science and engineering in China.
In 1958, under the guidance of the government’s general line and education policy, Beihang Carried out work-study, advocated and practiced the four combinations of teaching and scientific research, design and production, and carried out the development of aviation models.
In April 1988, with the approval of the State Education Commission国家教委, Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics北京航空学院 was renamed Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics北京航空航天大学.
Beihang University is a national key University directly under the Administration of The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, PRC. It is one of the world first-class University construction universities, and one of the key construction universities of Project 211 and Project 985.
According to the official website of the school in April 2021, the school is divided into Xueyuan Road Campus and Shahe Campus, covering a total area of more than 3,000 mu and a total construction area of more than 1.7 million square meters.

Under the university there are 35 secondary colleges. The third round of national university discipline evaluation results released by the Ministry of Education教育部, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics has a total of 18 disciplines to participate in the evaluation, of which 6 disciplines rank in the top 5 in the country, 13 disciplines rank in the top 10 in the country, and the two disciplines of aeronautics and astronautics science and technology and instrument science and technology rank first in the country.

The school is at the forefront of domestic universities in the field of cutting-edge technology research, and has more than 40 scientific research achievements of pioneering significance.
Aiming at cultivating leading talents, BUAA has set up four innovative talent training demonstration zones in hua Luogeng华罗庚 Mathematics Class, Knowledge and Practice Liberal arts experimental Class of Sino-French Engineering School of Advanced Engineering, and launched graduate education programs such as large aircraft class and engine class.

The discovery of tetraquark Zc(3900), which was participated by the School of Physical Sciences and Nuclear Engineering, was named as the 2013 American Journal of Physics Annual Research Hot Spot. Two papers of the School of Biological and Medical Engineering were listed in ESI hot Spot in recent two years and highly cited papers in materials field in recent ten years respectively.

As of September 31, 2013, THE university has 3799 faculty and staff, including 2111 full-time teachers, 1644 professors and associate professors, 17 full-time academicians, 18 chief scientists of the 973 Program, 46 professors of the Award Program奖励计划, 34 winners of the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars国家杰出青年科学基金, and 3 national Outstanding Teachers.
