Brief introduction of University of Science and Technology of China
The University of Science and Technology of China 中国科学技术大学 is a comprehensive national key university affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is mainly based on cutting-edge science and high technology and has both medicine and characteristic liberal arts.
In 1956, the Party Central Committee党中央 issued a call to “march toward modern science”, and then the party group of the Chinese Academy of Sciences中科院 submitted a report on running the school to Vice Premier Nie Rongzhen聂荣臻, and hired a number of domestic scientists such as Hua Luogeng华罗庚 and Qian Xuesen钱学森 to concurrently serve as the leaders of the school department. Guo Moruo郭沫若served as the principal.
At the end of the 1980s, USTC formulated a scientific research plan for university students, set up special scientific research funds, opened some laboratories for students to use, and vigorously developed new engineering and technical disciplines.
From 2000 to 2012, a total of 21 achievements of the university have been selected as China’s Top Ten Science and Technology Progress News中国十大科技进展新闻, China’s Top Ten Basic Science Research News中国基础科学研究十大新闻, and China’s Top Ten Science and Technology Progress of Chinese Colleges and Universities中国高等学校十大科技进展 28 times.

Education Achivements and Rankings
As of May 2018, there are 20 colleges (including 5 science and education integration colleges), 30 departments, graduate schools, as well as Suzhou苏州 Research Institute, Shanghai 上海Research Institute, and Advanced Technology Research Institute of China University of Science and Technology. There are 6 national basic science research and teaching talent training bases for mathematics, physics, mechanics, astronomy, biological sciences, and chemistry, and 1 national life science and technology personnel training base.
As of May 2018, there are 8 first-level disciplines of national key disciplines, 4 second-level disciplines of national key disciplines, 2 national key cultivation disciplines, and 18 first-level disciplines of key disciplines in Anhui Province.
As of 2021, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked the University of Science and Technology of China 15th in Asia and 6th in China.
In 2013, the C9 Alliance signed a series of future cooperation agreements with the American University Alliance, the Group of Eight Australia (Go8), and the European Alliance of Research Universities (LERU) at the University of Science and Technology of China.
International organizations such as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) have established sustainable strategic partnerships with the University of Science and Technology of China.
